Ryanair has set about slashing its fares and offering a "cheaper than any other airline" price guarantee this month, just as other low fare airlines including the transatlantic low cost carrier Zoom and the budget holiday carriers XL Airways and Futura have gone to the wall.

At present the loud-mouthed, Irish airline is offering five million seats in October and November for a flat fee of GBP 5 or EUR 5 with no additional taxes or charges to be paid.

You'd expect nothing but overconfident bluster from Ryanair anyway, but the European no-frills titan now believes that if oil prices fall all the way from $130 per barrel to $100, it will not make its first loss in 20 years, this winter (as it formerly predicted it would) but break even instead.

They're really putting the squeeze on the competition with those prices, shame I don't live in Europe. Still, prices in Asia are pretty good, especially with AirAsia, so I think I'll book a weekend to Macau/Hong Kong, even if it's not quite as cheap as €5!

Apparently not content to suffice with its most recent promotion, Ryanair is now delivering a coup de grace to Alitalia and any other European airline right now on its knees.

For the next two days, Ryanair is giving away 2 million free seats with no taxes and no charges.

The airline has had similar promotions before, but only once or twice and never involving as many as two million seats.

The offer period covers the whole of October and the first half of November.

The booking period is from 00:00 on Tuesday, September 23rd until 23:59 on Wednesday, September 24th.
