This has been expected since Qantas bought a stake in the Vietnamese airline last year. The rebranding will involve changing the name to "Jetstar Pacific", Jetstar livery for it's planes, along with Jetstar cabin crew uniforms. Perhaps most importantly, the Pacific Airlines site will be merged with Jetstar's. Pacific Airlines routes are already available to select on Jetstar's site, but they currently redirect to Pacific Airlines.
Jetsar already fly to Vietnam from it's two other hubs in Australia and Singapore, so uniting Pacific with Jetstar makes a lot of sense. As part of the deal Jetstar Pacific will receive up to 30 Airbus A320's by 2014, with the first arriving in August this year. This will first be used to expand domestically, before later expanding internationally.

This deal means Jetstar will be serving 49 destinations in 15 territories, compared to AirAsia's 55 destinations in 14 territories, and Tiger Airways serves 28 destinations in 10 territories. They still have some way to go before they can compete with AirAsia on price, but Jetstar Pacific should be more competive than the other Jetstar airlines. |
