Canada's most successful low fare airline WestJet and globally renowned US low cost carrier Southwest Airlines have signed an agreement which will allow them to codeshare.
The co-operation will commence in late 2009.
WestJet has already been flying to the USA for some time now, but when the alliance is enacted next year, it will mark the first time in nearly four decades of operations that Southwest Airlines has flown internationally.
(Took them long enough, no?)

It appears that Southwest Airlines is seeking out more codeshare partners and has its eye on the Mexican budget airline Volaris.
If the partnership is confirmed, the move will allow the world's longest operating low cost airline to offer flights from the USA to Mexico by 2010.
