There is some talk that Brazil's low cost carrier GOL will start operating daily budget flights to Panama City from Sao Paulo in a code-share arrangement with Panama's Copa Airlines.
Starting in 2005, the Brazilian low fare carrier has been operating four flights per week from Sao Paulo to Panama. _________________ Alan Lansdowne

That said, you'll have a devil of a job trying to book anything from Sao Paulo to Panama City on the GOL website at present.
No idea what they have done to it, but it's definitely not working as it should be. _________________ Alan Lansdowne

Yes, it's strange. They've had Panama on their booking engine for a long time, probably over a year, but I could never book a flight back then either.
Having returned from South America earlier this year I haven't checked their prices recently, but their international flights aren't very cheap, especially for one way flights, which can work out more expensive than a return. It was quite a bit cheaper for me to book a flight on a standard airline, than with GOL. I don't think they accepted international credit cards either, which is pretty stupid for an international airline.
Their domestic flights are better value, and can be booked at their offices (and travel agents, I guess), so atleast it's actually possible to book these. |

Yes, I have noticed this too. For flights beyond Brazil's borders, GOL appears to abandon its low cost philosophy and it parts company with all the other successful pan-regional LCCs in other parts of the world like Ryanair in Europe, Air Asia in Southeast Asia and Air Arabia in the Middle East.
I suspect GOL will only be able to keep this up until it comes up against a serious challenge by Viva Aerobus or Spirit or another contender. _________________ Alan Lansdowne
