Stelios Haji-Ioannou told the Associated Press news agency that the airline he founded, easyJet, has no plans to fly long-haul low cost to any destination in North America.

The forthcoming Transatlantic Open Skies agreement will allow North American and European airlines greater freedom to fly to each others' airports.

By contrast, Michael O'Leary, the CEO of easyJet's arch-rival, Ryanair, has already stated publicly that he intends to launch a separate long-haul, low cost airline by 2010 which is expected to fly from London Stansted to New York Long Island Islip MacArthur airport.
