Sadly There are less and less Low Cost flights from Paris to Germany:
- German Wings stopped Stuttgart last october, and 3 days ago stopped Cologne too
- TuiFly also stopped Stuttgart and next October they'll stop Hannover
- Easy Jet terminated Dortmund
Seems like we're back to the Lufthansa / Air France duopoly days.
Hopefully, we still have Air Berlin to Munich and Easy jet to Berlin and Hamburg (And Ryanair to Bremen from Beauvais).
It's strange, Paris is a leisure and business destination, but I guess the real reason for stopping these line are high airport taxes: Taxes at CDG (even at the Charter / Low cost Terminal 3) and Orly are around 30€, and those airlines offered tickets for 19€. strange, but maybe the most visited city in the world can make loose money to Low cost carriers... Maybe the french authorities think that people is still going to come, so that they don't really need low cost here. |

Do you think the competition from TGV EST over the last 12 months might be having an impact? If I had the choice between a flight from Paris to western Germany for EUR 49 and a superfast train journey for the same price, I would have no hesitation opting for the train... _________________ Alan Lansdowne

Exactly that´s the point !
E.g.: TUIfly has no chance against the TGV between Stuttgart and Paris. That´s why they gave up.
It is possible to book (one-way) train tickets from 29,-EUR and the overall travel time is about equal between both cities (considering the time you need to get to the airport and the check-in deadline, getting into Paris from the airport, etc.)
An almost similar situation is between Cologne and Paris.
Only the more distant german cities will retain LCC-flights to Paris (e.g. HAM, BER, etc.) |

Hi,
Here I am back to the forum.
Yes, you're right about the TGV Est, but look at the London-Paris route: it's served by at least 30 flights a day from at least 3 carriers (EasyJet, Air France and British Airways) and it's just a 1 hour flight+ the time to get to the airport... and then you've got the Eurostar, which will take from downton Paris to downtown London in 2 hours. |
