Sri Lanka's government plans to ensure that Mihin Lanka resumes operations by December 2008.
The Sri Lankan state-run low cost carrier has been grounded for most of 2008 with an uncertain future after administrative failure early in the year led to the airline's bankruptcy.
| Quote: | | "We have sought the cabinet's approval to purchase new aircraft from China in the upcoming budget," informed Chamal Rajapaksa, Minister of Ports and Aviation, Sri Lanka. He further said that the government will take steps to resume operations of Mihin Air by December utilising state-owned aircraft purchased from China. The government has submitted a cabinet paper to allocate 3.7 billion rupees to purchase six aircraft from China. [...] Elaborating on the new structured plan to resume operations of Mihin Air, Rajapaksa said, "We will select the best corporate plan out of several and implement it in December." |

| Well, their site is up and running, although the booking engine doesn't show any flights yet. I don't know if they ever took it down though. |

They kept the site running - they just switched the booking engine off.
I didn't remove Mihin Lanka from the low cost airline guides because there seemed to be a spirit of optimism that sooner or later the grounded carrier would be restarted. |
