I just noticed this route in the "Coming soon" section of their website - doesn't seen to have made it into the news.
Tianjin is 1-2 hours from Beijing by train, with perhaps 50 trains a day. Not sure how convenient Tianjin airport is for the railway station though.
So, pretty soon, AA X will be (slightly indirectly) serving the China's three major coastal cities: Beijing (Tianjin), Shanghai (Hangzhou) & Guangzhou (Guangzhou!/Shenzhen) - but with the exception of the latter, only from KL.
I suspect services to some of the mooted western destinations will be held up by the earthquake - at least for Chengdu (which was damaged) & Chongqing (close enough to be providing a lot of aid & manpower).
And with high oil prices continuing to encourage Thai Air Asia to allocate new A320s to replacement of older fleet, rather than new routes, connectivity on the (ironically) much Thai-China routes still seems a long way away. |
